A friend wrote one of those O'Reilly computer books that have an animal on the cover. He dedicated it to his girlfriend. She broke up with him a week before the book came out. She had no idea he had dedicated it to her and obviously it was too late for him to get it changed. He moved across the country for his dream job (the reason for their breakup), met a nice woman with in a year, got married, and had kids. The ex-girlfriend stayed single for twelve more years, having an endless string of fwb and short term relationships. Finally in her 40s she found a man to marry her: a single dad. She never got to have any children of her own but now has to help raise another woman's children. Such fun karma.

Got my own children to take care of. Why would I want to take care of someone else's? Especially someone who couldn't keep their marriage together. No need to waste resources on someone else's bad genes when those resources could go to my children instead.
