IIRC developing tissue often knows when some single cell gets mutated and either repairs itself or dies? Gametes is where it's at, even if it's still a huge gamble.
I would try finding some pictures of the setup or detailed descriptions from people with successful results if I was doing this as a hobby. But you'd never know if you accidentally mutated some mould spores that then goes on infecting the whole world, so I'd advise against doing such things without a full risk assessment and accountable supervisor.
