I'm an arab and many members of my extended family are university professors, writers, lawyers, doctors, engineers, social scientists, ect. Family gatherings bring with it an inevitable shouting match that leads to serious screaming and threats. It blows over after am hour or so and everybody forgets. If you don't act like this you are see as weak and not a man. The "disconnected unemotional monotone genius" trope is not revered or practiced. If you have something to say you have to fight for it.
