Can I take the rabies vaccine if the animal more likely than not had no rabies but I still want to be sure?

that's typically recommended, but if you can find the animal they can actually test it to see if it's necessary.

It was a stray cat who kind of died around my enviroment, from what I gathered from past behavior and from the fact that it wasn't showing the telltale sign of rabies (saliva) I think it doesn't have it but no way to test it now.
Now I had absolutely no interaction with the animal but people I interact with did.
Paranoid? What should I do?

not that anon but what? even if the animal did have rabies, the fucker would have needed to slobber in the mouths or something of the people who were in contact with it or more commonly bite them or something. and even then, that would require the animal to have rabies, pass it to those people (typically through bites), and then those infected people would have to also bite you or infect you in a similar manner but rabies has not been documented to pass from person to person even though it seems logical and possible. if you have open wounds and this animal slobbered in it, yes, seek medical attention ASAP as only like 7 people or something have survived the actual disease. and if it were these people who interacted with it that slobbered or bit you? very unlikely, but you'd make for a great case study. incredibly unlucky and lucky in a sense. but if these people were bit by the animal, and then bit you or something, see a doctor just in case. 99.999999% you're fine though

There are shots you can get after the incident. Shit is pretty scary when I got an one off bite from a horny dog when I just turned my back. Didn't know what to do back then, 2 yrs now not dead yet so I guess its fine for me, still see that fucker around earlier this year.
Hope you have been washing the wound for a long time when the wound is still fresh. A cat that died soon after the attack is still a bad sign. If you can still get a hold of the body ask animal control to do something idk, test the dead body.

There has been no attack, I have a scratch but it's from another unrelated healthy animal, no way someone got to it due to the place.
My issue is with the other possible infected that handled the corpse, I worry they'll infect me
How long can the virus survive on the saliva of a deceased animal?

Not very long, probably dies when dried.
what happened to the handler? Pretty sure its only fresh saliva getting into an open wound can transmit that. Unless that person deliberately does exactly that post cat's mortem. Otherwise picking it by hand and throw it away shouldn't be an issue.
