And yet not a single "researcher" ever found that most extremist content is astroturfing by hostile foreign powers, usually totalitarian genocidal regimes who want nothing more than "ethnic strife" in their target countries (4chan's userbase globally ie US and Europe) even if there are numerous proofs of this even on anonymous imageboards (for example, 50 cent army showing their power level by posting through their military networks from remote military bases flags if you rile them up enough on flag-boards, UFWG Discords etc.). Wouldn't be surprised if these guys literally do little more besides fapping tbqhfam

I agree. The activist's excessive focus on dragging and subverting the undesirable narratives is self-evident. It's strange because while they recognize the effect and function of humor on 4fungus - solidarity, community, and entertainment - they entirely ignore this aspect for their own part. The end result being their 'humor' comes off as obviously disingenuous and even ressentimental. I also think you see this reflected in how the paper is inconsistent in describing the online right-wing, saying it's at once organically and strategically organized.

The ironic distance of shitposting does a number on status quo moral absolutism; Even in analyzing this fact they fail at grasping at the uncomfortable essential fact, that satire and board culture is enjoyable in and of itself, and that there need not necessarily be a pipeline to radicalization. That someone could call me a fag without this necessarily entailing that I'm gay, that I exhibit queer-coded behavior, that the other person harbors resentment toward the LGBTQ+, or lacks sympathy for their position in society. Not least that someone could post or co-opt the green frog for their own Posting purposes without this betraying any kind of political standing.
