I don't believe the "bet" thing with the college professor is real
Recently there was an episode of this thing in which he won a 10 thousand dollars bet against an engineering prof.
I find it unlikely that an engineering prof would just bet 10 thousand dollars, and the mistake of the professor was rather basic, unbecoming of a tenured professor.

The veritasium guy probably paid the professor to make him take part of the charade

I have no problems watching a video on a topic that was already covered, as long as it offers a new way to look at it. 3b1b did a few topics that we're already on Numberphile and he actually improved on them immensely.
Veritasium just presents information in an awful way. He believes that bombarding the viewer with animations and graphics for half an hour will get his point across better.

He was a physics professor. And you clearly haven't interacted with many of them, because I can tell you with authority how many are stupid.
