There should be different measurements depending on what they're being used for. A human scale coastline measurement based on the distance a human would walk along the coastline and a maritime scale based on how much distance would a ship cover going along the coastline. Use median tide and ship size. There's little to no use for an atomic scale measurement.

Proof that there are infinitely more rationals than whole numbers.
1: Set 1: Create a set the whole numbers.
2: Set 2: Now create a set of numbers by dividing 1 by each whole number (1/2, 1/3, 1/4 etc). (remove 1/1) This set is infinite and no members are in Set 1.
Rationals have set 1 and set 2 in them, therefore there are infinitely more rationals than whole numbers.
