The only ones I’ve read completely are the physics text books, since that’s what my degree was in. I’ve collected the engineering texts over the years and with my new job, I’ve gone back and purchased my old physics text books to have as keepsakes. The electronics textbooks are my father’s. He kept them after he graduated instead of selling them, so he could give them to his future next of kin. I figured I would do the same, maybe start a family tradition.

No worries. I got my undergrad in physics and got the fuck out of there. The grad department was completely unbearable, always making snide comments to people who knew less than them. I didn't want to waste my time being around a bunch of people who just want to "look" like they are smarter than everyone else, rather than be genuinely interested in seeking the truth. I was never the smartest kid in the room, but I actually gave a shit about truly understanding what was going on and put in the effort to do well; Unlike other students who were either totally satisfied with just getting the right answer, or others who like I said before just wanted to "look" intelligent. Many of my professors thanked me for that attitude and said they truly appreciated it. I am good friends with them now. I did just get a copy of Jackson's emag book so I will start my trial by fire soon. I will look into Gaskell's thermo book you speak of.

I do, and that is exactly what I did during my education. Saved at least $2,000 doing that. However, what started my fascination with science and engineering was when my father gave me his old college textbooks from when he did his BS in EE. He kept the books for that purpose and I figured that since I've now graduated, I will continue the tradition. They aren't too expensive (except for "Rocket Propulsion Elements" that was like $250, fuck me) and I make more than enough to purchase them. They make good keepsakes and bring back lots of memories of late nights with fellow alumni, struggling to solve the last homework problem for Solid State Physics. I look forward to the day when I can give them to my children, maybe they will do the same and so on.

partially this, still I'd preffer to have a paper book collection, but I have had to move a lot in the past and carrying them everytime is a pain in the ass, also the space they need to be stored.

On the other hand I have a stupid huge collection of digital books from libegen, zlib and so, but I just can download, read what I need and determine if it's good or not. If not, there's no lose in deleting them.

That PDE book from Asmar is rather large but
readable with plenty of problems to work with.
It's juicy with applications, though.
Great if you're transitioning from ODE's.

I was surprised when I pulled this out the box
when it arrived, but the Handbook of Mathematics
takes the cake for the thickness.

Hörmander's linear PDE's series from
