>>13458514String theory is what happens when you let methemeticians take over physics. There is nothing real about string theory nor mechanical about quantum mathematics but it appeals to the worst kind of Platonist who think the world of ideal forms actually exists in another dimension (e.g. Tegmark). They aren't seeking the truth about THIS world, they are either "go along to get along" types that never question the fundamentals (e.g. Carroll or NDT) or they are attention-seeking charlatans (e.g. Kaku) or seek a Nobel prize and validation to assuage their insecurities (e.g. Witten, one of many). My evidence?, just ask them as it is pretty transparent now. They are jealous of Einstein and want to find some magic, abstract math formula that will make them famous just like him. Their strategy, as good Platonists, is to go ever more abstract without realizing they are just building castles in the air without any foundation nor connection to reality (or experiment, for that matter).
What they fail to realize is that Einstein's little stunt, trashing the concepts of space and time, to reconcile a contradiction between Netwon's dynamics and Maxwell's equations was a unique event. All Einstein did was push the implication of a contradiction between those two theories to their logical conclusion. Poincare, Lorentz, et. al. were not far behind Einstein in figuring out Relativity. The failure of the "new" physicists is to never question Einstein and whether his "solution" is the best solution but that would mean going back and questioning every fundamental concept of physics -- something few men are willing or able to do. So in the end, Einstein did not solve the Newton/Maxwell inconsistency he just pushed it to a higher level so that now we have a contradiction between QM (atomic theory) and GR (cosmic theory).
Real physicists should kick out all the mathematicans and start over going back to Newton and the Calculus, this is where the problem lies.
