Normies are even less scientifically literate than I thought

I was talking about how pointless the Bezos spaceflight was and how I don't consider it interesting unless something actually reaches orbit, and that just going up to an arbitrary line and coming back down again can barely be considered a trip to space. He responded that it could be cool because of experiencing zero g, to which I pointed out that this can be achieved with freefall in a plane and he said something like "yeah but there's a line where the gravity stops affecting you". I was stunned at this and had to reiterate that zero g, even in orbit, is simply because an object is in freefall, not because it has escaped the reach of gravity. This guy isn't even dumb, he's a fairly well spoken and down to Earth normie but fucking hell...

A family friend also had a similar retarded claim suggesting that you can pay to go to a room where they "take the gravity out" and you can float around. Once again, I said that he either had to be referring to a freefall flight experience or a indoor skydiving room aka big fan that allows you to float in a draft of air. He was adamant that no, there is a room where they "take the gravity out". He's not the kind of guy to listen so I gave up.

It's just shocking to me that two completely functional seemingly midwit normies who both hold down jobs and have families/relationships etc don't understand/know the simplest, most fundamental facts about how the universe works.
