there's a huge difference in radiation doses between various scanners, some institutions tend to buy the most modern "low dose" ones, but those are often most powerful, 64 and more slices scanners, and low dose is just relative to it's resolution, it depends on technician to set it up not to radiate you too much, or else old "high dose" 4 slice scanners deliver much less radiation.
i'm not sure what to suggest you after the ct (you can't really eat anything to prevent the damage), i would drink milk, maybe active charcoal, and ton of antioxidants.
