>>13442625I read Masha Gessen's biography of Perelman, and it was quite a while ago, there was a part in the book about the money destroying the "purity" of mathematics or something along those lines.
I read that before he won the millennium prize, Perelman wanted an appointment at somewhere like Princeton, Columbia, or another great universityy but couldn't get anything . He spent some time at SUNY Stoneybrooke iirc but returned back to russia at some point. When news got out about him solving the poincare conjecture offers from elite institutions came flooding in, but a condition was that they got to have their name associated with all of his hard work. Perelman was insulted by this, and that was one of the things leading to the publication on arxiv.
That's what i remember about this, but i could be mistaken, i read that book in 2016
