Motorbikes would still be a problem (because of the inherent instability of - particularly slow moving - two wheeled vehicles).
Pedestrians would still be a problem.
But for bicycles and whatnot, a sort of responder would be better than having to depend on the sensors the autodrive cars are fitted with.
Obviously this means moving a significant portion of the control to some central (local) system(s); processing and coordination.
The problem isn't the technology, it's the (rather unpredictable) people. Systems really don't like unpredictability, so minimize unpredictability and that means reducing the human factor as much as possible.
