Like the Rubik's cube: first, it's daunting and looks complex, you don't understand much, but eventually, you figure things out and start learning algorithms. Then one day, it just clicks, and you look back and think, "wow, I'm retarded". Then you realize that so is everyone else. Such a simple puzzle can stump our minds because we haven't evolved those areas of the brain enough.
So the question becomes "how can I be better?" or "how can I learn more efficiently?" and the answer is simple: learn a variety of different things; the more, the better. Then you can use prior knowledge of other concepts in whatever it is you're learning.
The difference between humans following algorithms and computers is that, for a human to follow an algorithm without rereading each step, they need to understand the algorithm. Why this method works in this case, but something else doesn't. A computer always follows step-by-step and cannot understand what it's doing, which leads to the questions "what is understanding?" and "how can we make computers understand?" Once we figure out how to do that, maybe we can be dumb, quicker.
