>>13436036>So is autism or savantism part explained by parapsychology and it's wrongfully classified as a mental disorder? There's three theories which can explain savantism apart from the mainstream theory. Also it's not necessarily a disorder. A disorder is only labeled as such if it causes significant impairment in daily life.
I haven't personally seen any research into the savant syndrome from a parapsychological standpoint, but it comes up as something referenced by people like Raymond Moody when they talk about other phenomenon in relationship with reincarnation.
Of the three theories, in order of being more at odds with the modern physicalist paradigm, you have multiplicity theory, superpsi and past life memories.
Multiplicity theory claims we may have multiple consciousness's simultaneously, and in this case one of these consciousnesses is hyper skilled at a particular thing. There's a lot of weaknesses in this theory but there is still evidence for it in the form of dissociative identity disorder.
Super psi is an old theory that potentially we're all connected all the time psychically but some people will randomly pull from other peoples minds, therefore savantism where someone can play the piano at a high level without having touched one before is them merely stealing the ability from another person in the 'cloud'.
The ability to suddenly play a piano from a past life perspective, would merely mean they had learned it in a previous life and for some reason the usual forgetfulness doesn't apply here.
Of course, the mainstream theory is that the brain is somehow doing it, maybe as a compensatory mechanism or their brain was randomly jostled into the configuration which coincides with playing the piano.
