What are the challenges with making effective antidepressants? SSRIs seem to work in a roundabout fashion, and I don’t understand why serotonin isn’t more directly introduced to the brain through nasal/inhalant methods. Besides the argument that this doesn’t solve the problem of the body being incapable of producing serotonin, why aren’t these methods used in extreme cases where SSRI fail?
tldr if my antidepressants aren’t working, what’s stopping me from crystallizing serotonin and snorting it?
