Yes. As a graduate student at TAMU, I literally have no real idea what's happening to my home community or even in Bryan unless I go there myself. It's a completely different world, one where I can shut myself away from the outer world and survive in this happy place.

the real world is the market, not academia
researches can live in the real world, if they work in the research and development sector of a company. if they never leave the education system in their life, going from high school, to college, to phds, to teaching in college, they live in an ivory tower and have never been a part of the real world.

Yes. The reason why they claim every mundane thing is racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. is because they live in a safe little bubble completely isolated from the real world. Their only peers are NPC clones of themselves.

Academics no longer think much but are more akin to sinecures and salesman.

Academics now spend little time pondering thoughts in a tower but rather do busy work and think of ways to raise student fees and make their classes more marketable to the masses.

The complete opposite of ivory tower in a sense.
