As some anons have already mentioned, I assume we currently simply don't have any other method on producing electricity on such a large scale with such efficiency.
Makes me wonder though, seeing how the sun is basically just a giant ball of extremely hot plasma being kept in one place by gravity, what makes the plasma on the surface/in the sun actually "flow" isn't gravity but hilariously strong electromagnetic fields. Fluctuations in those fields occasionally cause solar storms, the strongest of which (Kerrington Event) can fry all our electronics because they induce too much electricity in conductive stuff, frying it.
Could there be a way to artificially create such a natural event to directly cause such an electromagnetic field to happen and induce electricity in conductive stuff but on a much smaller scale? If so, how could we make it efficient/productive enough for our energy needs?
It's just a dumb thought but perhaps some smarter anons here can shed some light on this?
