also how many stages does your Vigreux column have?

because if you're above ~ 300°C you will decompose and generate white SO3 fumes, that could be what you're seeing.
To distill sulfuric acid in a proper way you should be under 0.1 bar way below 300°C

this is the problem, you're decomposing your acid and producing sulfur trioxide fumes
dunno if you can actually obtain some (impure) acid that way

yeah that's too much for sulfuric acid, you will get a product with impurities.
Try again at around 150°C below 0.1 bar and with a Vigreux column with around 10 stages

can you titrate with NaOH or similar to verify purity?
if it works ok then, never tried it in practice.
I think you will get around 95% purity this way... with some SO3 dissolved in it probably

a problem could also be that at 400°C SO3 will further decompose and create some SO2 or sulfur that will end in your sample too

oh this is not too bad
I still strongly suggest to tie a washer cascade and a vacuum pump to the system and distill at lower T to get 99.5+ % pure acid

well then to further increase purity it must be dried afterwards using another method...
I would still distill under reduced pressure tho
