What you "we have enough space" tards don't get is that every for urbanite we need several square acres of land to feed them. Most developed nations are net food importers already(with the notable exception of the USA). And no you cannot solve this by eating bugs and monoculture plants. Meat is actually already the most efficient use of agricultural resources because pastoral land can't be used for farming monocultures and most of the animal feed is from excess biomass.

Already in the 70s you had the majority of the middle class in senseless jobs. They mostly hold their jobs so that they could be high quality consumers and do pointless busywork while the investors give engineers money to produce new consumer goods/build new developments etc. Now most immigration is not due to a "labour shortage" or whatever (in the EU 1 out every of 6 millennial is unemployed yet they still flood it with Asians and Africans and over 70% of second generation immigrants are unemployed). Welfare recievers also don't significantly contribute to consumer spending (hench the stagflation). It is almost entire done to keep real estate portfolios growing. You just need to remember what caused the 2008 crisis to know what a big driver this growth is for investment in other sectors of the economy. The problem with real estate driven growth is twofold. First it damages the labour market, this in turn damages the all important domestic consumer market. The second price is social unity and stability. The latter of which is actually accounted for in many economic models for immigration.

So it's not just a matter of natural resources decreasing, a trap of compound interest obsessed growth has built an economic reliance on cheap import labour, cheap housing demand exponentially increases the risk for social and ecological collapse. That is what we are witnessing right now and the net result will be isolationism. The real effect of this is going to be minimal inflation in the first world, but massive inflation, starvation and lower birth rates in the third world as investments start drying up. As in the model everything will stabilise again once the overly leverage countries return to normal.

Anyone who thinks the descent is going to be a carefully planned and peaceful event is happily delusional. Thinking of what advice I would give to my young nephew when he gets older. Trying to narrow the list to the five most important things

1) Learn a useful and portable trade. Such as fixing small engines, being a medic, welding, solar electrics, building. Anything that will make you very useful to other people.
2) Learn how to fish, hunt, and grow vegetables.
3) Learn how to sail.
4) Learn how to use firearms.
5) Learn a self defense martial art.
