The loss-of-brain-matter study from the UK is a different beast. For that one, they had access to pre-COVID imaging from an image bank, but for some bizarre reason they went about the study like a Rube Goldberg machine, and the research article is riddled with obfuscatory statements that I haven't seen in other COVID research articles.
