Sure, addition and multiplication are the basic blocks upon which more advanced math is built, but if we don't teach kids that they should use logic and proofs from the very beginning then what's even the point? Almost every high school student I know absolutely HATES proofs, both algebraic and geometric. When they're thrown into computer science they do not know how to approach even the simplest algorithmic questions because they never saw how an algorithm is devised.
