No, but it genuinely does help
I skipped out on readings for most of undergrad but I started doing them at the end and I think you get a lot more out of lectures when you already kind of know the broad strokes of what's going to happen. You retain more of the lecture when you're just chilling listening to an elaboration of stuff you checked out a few days ago instead of white-knuckling it trying to keep up because it's all brand new.

i've also noticed a marked increase in overall scores so take that as you will.
