Show me one war where the US has actually been trying to secure an oil supply

Hint: you can't. The US has sufficient strategic reserves and doesn't need to go looking. If wars are fought over oil producing regions it's for more nuance geopolitical reasons.

I believe that's what he was getting at. Many of the US' rivals in the mideast suffer from undiversified economies which makes them vulnerable and potential hegemons use that against them.

Yep. Also much of the establishment of recent decades was forged by the trauma of 70s stagflation. Central bank leadership had been hawkish on inflation which was caused in large part by the OPEC oil crisis. Military leadership therefore sees foreign control of energy resources as a major issue of national security. Though this is less important than it used to be now that the US is pretty much energy independent due to shale oil and the fracking revolution.

The US is there for several reasons, given the last 2 governments they have overthrown both opposed the Qatar / Turkey pipeline that would end western European reliance on on Russian for winter heating economically crippling Russia while just so happening to bend to cross into Israel giving the Jew a 10% cut of the pipes profit is a major one.
There is a third government still standing in the way but the Syrian civil war failed to dispose them and Russia got serious about backing Assad for said energy market and the US backed down, for now.

with contracts like these you never know the final applications. it can be used directly against adversaries, or legitimately supporting your people at home or abroad. heck, even your government counterpart may not even know yet what the final applications are going to be. it's r&d, if we knew what we're doing, it wouldn't be called research.

so, just to be on the safe side, it's going to be a called "autonomous mobile platform" and not "hunter killer robots". imagine the media shitstorm, if some local government entity gets their hands on these for search and rescue, and it has skynet written all over the documentation. not a good thing.
