I imagine that drug classes which modulate downstream expression of unique receptors might be one such drug. drugs (perhaps targeted in more complex fashion than a chemical bath) that target specific genes to create novel and permanent effects. Imagine reprogramming all your 5HT receptors to become receptive to additional (or different) chemical interactions. That is pretty unlike anything we have today, and it would be extremely psychoactive.
