A Mystery

The staff here at the physics department of the University of Uppsala received an email out of the blue describing an idea for an experiment the person said would be worth running. It supposedly described a way to send information into the past (tachyon generation.) The individual went on to explain that it wasn't so much about accelerating the particle to beyond the speed of light but to do with knocking the mass (Higgs field) out of the neutrino and preserving a state of negative mass for long enough for the particle to run backward in time.

To everyone's surprise, the math checked out and we are preparing to run a temporal experiment for the first time. We are all a little surprised that the Americans didn't want such a groundbreaking technology to themselves but we sure are glad that you came to us. What is going on in your country? Your scientists are being kept out of University educations and your government can't afford to invest in new tech anymore? This is absolutely crazy.

Our government will probably throw a tight lid on this soon so I thought I'd reach out to our counterparts in America and ask your opinion on why someone would give away such a valuable idea.
