I sucked really hard at math when I was in school. Had to manually count to find time tables, couldn't do simple fractions, couldn't solve simple algebraic problems etc. to the point I developed absolute disgust and hatred towards it, seeing my peers, even the idiots get ahead of me. So I left it back in HS. Doing my masters in Computer Sci now, and decided to pick it up again, this time with a fresh pair of eyes. I realised a while back I was a slow learner and really had to hammer in concepts, no matter how much time it took.
What worked was learning the relevant mathematical topics. Started out with logic, realised I enjoyed it, decided to push my self further. Moved on to simple algebra, really hammering in those foundational concepts, trying to figure why things were the way they were. Of course you don't have to do this, but personally this has helped me a lot. Moved to Linear Algebra and I started to realise just how much I enjoyed problem solving, since I come from a CS background. I'll be moving on to multivariate calculus next and hopefully some of the more advanced topics that follow. But honestly I learnt to stop worrying and start living mathematics.
The point is anon, we all have different learning paces. Follow your own pace. And it's important to establish a foundation before moving to advanced concepts. I would highly encourage you to read 'A Mind from Numbers' and follow the study techniques in it, which I have been implementing in my daily routine. Be consistent and you'll eventually get there.
WAGMI!
