Why are schools so obsessed with memorization?
In the real world I can look up any formula I damn well please at any time online or in a book
Why do they force rote memorization of shit that you can easily find?

In part due to the way school was first created, prussians first did it and even then many philosophers and scientists opposed it. Apparently prussians deliberately gave students a lot of rote memorization because they had then less time for rebelling against national values or sth. It is also very easy to check and teach, you just give students a list of facts, dates, formulas and later check how many they remember; trying to test whether someone internalized the knowledge and can use it in different situations is harder and subjective so any standardized testing and grading would be either very challenging for teachers or very unfair for students. We can't change it so we must instead try our best to game the system, aim for the lowest threshold for GPA and use time you saved on doing usefull stuff.

Goal based evaluation, if you can use the knowledge you know enough of it.
It doesn't work for humanities, but a good part of STEM and professional education can use it.

Other details seem to malicious to be mere coincidence, such as hiring useless retards as teachers, sometimes even pedos, a lot of big nosed trash, some teaching materials are barely coherent, ...

Ah yes, forgot about goals. True, music education works like this becase most of the time you're not allowed to progress unless you reach required goals (ecample: playing an etude or composing piece of music with X technique), I really like classical guitar lessons because of that, I got a problem and it was my responsibility to solve it (am I too tense or not accurate enough? Should I focus on first or second part of the piece? Etc.) Very fun learning experience, I learned things my teacher never taught me and each of the students had a different approach because each of us faced different challenges.

Most formulas have a strong intuition behind how they are created and it's way easier to remember them if you know what the idea behind it was.

Because of efficiency reasons. Back then it was alot more timeconsuming to be able to look something up. Nowadays yeah you can Look up shit but this means you'd rely your knowledge on technology. Technology can fail thx to an EMP or a solar flare. Also a scientist who is able to remember all of the ins and outs is able to provide a faster solution than one that has to look up things. Allthough beeing able to look up things quickly is a good way to build an organic form of knowledge

OP, you should be engaging in all types of learning, from memorization, to learning how to derive knowledge from a scrambled data set, to even learning how and where and when to search for solutions. If you constantly have to go back to a book it means you didn't properly learn the subject the first time and/or you are purposefully handicapping yourself just to be lazy.

tl;dr If you went through the subject matter slow, steady and with a figurative fine toothed comb approach you would barely reference the text or cut down on needing to reference it significantly.

Especially things that have zero practical use for the vast majority of people (like the name of the capital of Yugoslavia) anyway.
