>>13367570The surface is ~100% explored, in the sense that we know where every last spit of land on the planet Earth is, we know the trade routes, the winds, the local fauna, etc. The remainder, the volume of the thing, is perhaps about 5-10% explored. There seems to be nothing in the SE Pacific region and since there are no people there, it isn't strategic. Like Marie Byrd Land, it is a Mare Nullius. I wonder what the US and South American militaries have learned about the region other than that it is cold and lifeless. The most on-hands knowledge bases would be Chile and the US, and maybe the other western SA countries somewhat (Galapagos/Ecuador, much further north).
