This shit is easy.
There are 2 gametes with no intermediaries: sperm and ova.
So there are 4 possible combinations that a person can take:

Produces eggs but not sperm: Female
Produces sperm but not eggs: Male
Produces both sperm and eggs: Mafemale
Produces neither sperm nor eggs: -ale.

Note that this has to do with the lifecycle in total. A child who has not gone through puberty but who will go on to produce on set of gametes is that sex (so a little boy is still male despite not yet producing sperm). An adult who had produced gametes during their life cycle but no longer does is still the sex that produces the gametes (so a post menopausal woman is still female despite no longer having eggs).

That's it. There's nothing more to it. It's not that complicated. It's not about genitalia or chromosomes or any dumb shit. Its simply about which gametes your produce during your life cycle.
