Any reputable scientist would say they are not 100% confident but from all the data gathered, it is the best hypothesis. That being said, it would be cool if the big bang wasn't the beginning but a repetitive cycle of the universe, once it hits heat death by entropy, it recycles itself into a new arrangement of matter using the same that exists right now, giving a fresh start to any possible life to develop in a virgin universe. Since we all make our assumptions based on current experienced things, if we ever got to know the truth, it should be some obscure non-sensical process as most of breakthroughs in science ended up being after a few thousand years of theories.
