>>13353741I’m not sure how it is elsewhere but here medicine is the only degree which does the filtering before the exams/job applications since there is a universal minimum academic standard which must be met (AAA in 18 yo exams). It’s incredibly easy to get a degree in anything else because there are plenty of shit universities which accept anyone and have very low standards since grades are internal. When it comes to postgrad applications these people all get filtered out. I suspect if you look at the success rates for passing these exams, getting into lawyer postgrad training etc it would be similarly high if you only looked at the students from AAA or higher universities.
As far as I’m aware this problem is even more widespread in the USA and Canada where the requirements to get a degree if you go for the least selective/prestigious colleges are even lower.
