to get to Mars you need actually less dV, problems is time to get there
Mars has atmosphere to replenish oxygen and synthesize fuel and plastics in situ
even the thin atmosphere shields a lot of cosmic rays and small meteorites
the temperature differences are much more manageable
there's a lot more water on Mars (as far as we know)
day and nigh cycles are pretty much same as Earth's
there's higher gravity (I suppose that could be debatable as far as benefits go)
it also looks more pleasant outside the hab. Moon is extremely bleak world of ash and eternal night sky. Mars is just desert.
