If you look in the region today, blue eyes and light hair is still not uncommon, keeping in mind that modern populations are darker as a result of Arab admixture (relatively pure populations still exist in the region, I'm not claiming they were all Aryans). Even Syria's Assad has blue eyes.
I believe had these regions remained Christian and Arabic admixture had not darkened the modern populations, Syria and the Levant might be considered 'white' today.
