>>13571934I believe, people think of soul as Pixar or religion does, an ephemeral entity residing in your body that is distinct from the body itself. That will one day leave it’s mortal coil and traverse the universe
My argument, having thought about this for years due to the passing of my best dog friend, is that the entire body is the soul, or, limiting the concept, your personal identity is your soul. You, experiencing the universe through your body and memories alone is what is fundamental in the idea of a ‘continuous consciousness’.
Expanding on this idea, if you were to clone yourself, your clone would have your identity, memories and personality, but possess their own ‘soul’.
So cloning isn’t a viable method to resurrecting yourself, others would not be able to tell the difference but the original ‘soul’ still hasn’t woken up
There’s no continuity in consciousness with this or with the idea of teleportation
Unless, the almost intangible quantum state of the original object is preserved or impossibly recreated
So, personal identity, in the sense of an individual that cannot escape their experience, is composed of your body, your memories and finally, this not yet understood quantum state that might be inherent to the universe and every individual object in existence that defines its personal experience
I’ll elaborate if this is interesting to people because I can’t find any material on the internet alluding to this idea except with regards to the issues of teleportation
I just think it can be extended further to the idea of resurrecting people by capturing the exact quantum continuum where your unique soul lies
