After 30 years Republicans finally took the house and declared that from now on they would not work with Democrats ever again and began telling the American people that Democrats are communists trying to destroy America. Ever since then Republicans have walked out of the political discourse. They have refused to hold hearings for Supreme Court justices, refused to fund Government, refused to hold hearings for federal judges, and used the filibuster to completely stop all legislation by 2 American presidents.
There can be no political discourse when one side is telling the American people that the other is composed of evil demons bent on destroying the US and who's tactics are to destroy government's ability to function then blaming the opposition for it.
All of this is a matter of historical record.
