Most bugs are conscious so eating them is unethical, just like eating nearly any other animal is
Eat plants, fungi, ethically-produced milk, unfertilized eggs, and future synthetic meat. Assuming the world doesn't collapse soon, synthetic meat that's healthier, cheaper, and genuinely tastier than killed meat will arrive eventually
>But plants and fungi are consciousIf they are it's to such a lower degree that you have to draw a line somewhere. Jellyfish are probably about as conscious as plants, so it's probably not unethical to eat them, either. But this problem will eventually be avoided entirely once good synthetic meat is available, because nothing has to die to produce it
>But I don't attribute any value or moral weight to the life of any non-human organismsWould you hunt and kill bonobos and dolphins for pleasure? If no, then why? If yes, then in what scenarios would you hunt and kill humans for pleasure?
>I attribute value to the life of some animals, but not insectsWhere exactly do you draw your line, and how?
>>13517280>Nah, I'll keep eating eggs and dairy from local farms.Nearly all farms unfortunately produce eggs and milk unethically, even if in some cases it may be moderately preferable to killfarming for the individuals who are fortunate to be assigned to the labor camp instead of the extermination camp
It's not that you can't get milk and eggs ethically, but it's much more costly and time-consuming to do, and farms are generally businesses and try to optimize their business and finance strategy. Very few do it because they're incentivized not to do it, unless money isn't their primary objective
