>>13524977>"Death is bad, but it does not follow from this that being immortal would be good.>However, if an immortal version of our current lives were possible, it would not be a good thing. For example, we would age progressively and suffer increasingly. Moreover, if immortality were widespread, the earth would rapidly become even more overpopulated than it already is." - Based BenatarCalling a turd "based" doesn't make it based. It's still just a turd, and this low-level brainlet thinking is not based.
Age-related infirmities and life span go hand-in-hand. It's the age-related infirmities that kills someone. Curing age-related illnesses will increase longevity.
Population control: We are pressured to have children within a timeframe of 20 to 30 years, especially women. In addition to menopause or lose of male vitality, limited lifespans means the later someone waits to have children, the more likely they would die before they were mature enough to live on their own. OTOH, someone who is biologically immortal can afford to wait for centuries or millennia to have children. Also, improved standard of living reduces birthrates and right now, in developed countries, they have the opposite problem: birthrates are below the minimum replacement rates.
