>>3956325>borders on homophobia nowAlways has been.
The misogynistic/homophobic hostility dates back to the 70s. Fifty years later our cultures are still homophobic/misogynistic, and it's reflected in the hostile attitudes the wider fandom has towards fujos.
The only change since the 70s is that in the 2010s a new strain of fujo hate rose with the anti-fujo movement on tumblr and twitter, which was started and popularized by radfem TERFs. It was wild seeing them openly discuss their explicit intention of turning “fujoshi” back into an insult and using it to misgender and delegitimize gay trans guys. Radfem rhetoric then seeped into women's fandom spaces through dog whistles, meshed perfectly with the homophobia non-BL female fans had, and now we have homophobic women linking hands with homophobic/misogynistic men to hate on fujos.
>I remember when the Spiderman fandom exploded and a bunch of women got mad over shipping the Indian Spiderman with any guys because "he has a canon girlfriend" and they somehow shielded their homophobia behind "muh racism"What's especially grating about the 2010s development is that women in fandom spaces are savvy enough to attempt to hide their homophobia behind seemingly progressive language. It's fucking insidious. If a person comes across this shit and hasn't been inoculated against bullshit second wave feminist talking points, it's too easy for them adopt the same stance and think themselves woke.
>A lot of black fandom goers in particular get disgusted when you try to ship any non-white characters in gay ships, making out like it's a white woman thing to do and that no black fujos exist. Absolutely insaneIt's doubly funny for them to clam it's a white girl thing when it's overwhelmingly black fujos who support ships with black characters, and non-white fujos who support ships with non-white characters.
