Basil as the reclusive, sensitive and shy on an introvert feminine sense works well in conjoint with Sunny who is the same but on masculine sense. Kel meanwhile has a well-meaning, high energy fun to his character in a masculine extrovert way and that can contrast well with Basil or Sunny, as well as the other characters.

Would probably be more if Basil was less stabby, or if the creator had more balls and made it canon. Anyway, Kel is more alluded to be shipped with Aubrey story-wise, but gameplay wise, having the character longside Kel for the IRL segments made tons fond of the character as a companion to Sunny, but not nearly enough.
I'd think gays are more likely the latter half since gays are used to going against author intent and leaning more towards their own feelings on the matter.
Probably a lot of femboys like Basil though.
