The leading theory is Limengan, a senior writer at Hoyoverse and who was in charge of writing for the High Cloud Quintet, purposely pushed Blade x Baiheng in the newest companion mission in order to kill Blade x Dan Heng shipping. Mind you, Blade x Baiheng had never been hinted prior to this, so it really came out of the left field. But the only evidence to support this accusation is he once made a post on Weibo saying he enjoys seeing "female fans" get mad at his writing and that he has unlimited control over how the story goes. Some take that last point as proof that he could, if he wanted to, change the plot this late into development just to screw over gay shippers.
Who knows? Maybe there's no conspiracy and Limengan's just a bad writer. After all, he was apparently the writer in charge of Inazuma's archon quest.
