The entire situation is about Sidon being a bottom.
Between BotW and TotK, Sidon never had the guts to admit to Link how gay he was for him in a straightforward way, but he’s so gay for Link he built a statue of Link on top of him to commemorate the memory.
Sidon sought out Yona to hide from his gay feelings: he seems to genuinely like her, but she can see the gay side to him because she’s a fujo (for zoomers: this is the whole concept of a “beard” ie. a woman a severely closeted man hides behind to seem heterosexual).
The Sludge-Like looks like a shit covered dick: Sidon’s fear is that Link will be repulsed if he confesses to Link he wants Link to top him. That whole battle is symbolic of Sidon getting over this fear that’s causing him to hold back with Link and with other people.
Sidon snaps back to his old self after the battle because it represented him getting over feeling ashamed about being horny for hylian sword.
That’s how I interpreted it.
To me the whole thing seemed pretty funny and intentional.
You at least have to admit there was something funny about that Sludge-Like.
Obviously Sidon can never directly confess to Link because this is a Nintendo game, but they knew what they were doing.
