>>3781170there was a point, really right after I first watched Evangelion in 2014, where I got as deep as I could into the series. Ate up all the lore and theories I came across.
For a few years I would have said I was a diehard fan.
But I’m at a point where I think the show is very well directed, well put together: but I’ve also been convinced the story is pretty meaningless.
This opinion is based on the way Anno talks about his own work.
I know the manga diverges, but I don’t believe Evangelion will fundamentally become more meaningful or interesting to me in the hands of a different author.
My relationship with Evangelion now is it’s something I used to like a lot: and now I mostly feel indifferent.
I wouldn’t be able to “get into” it again.
This is coming from someone who’s watched the show in its entirety over 10 times, and rebuilds 1-3 probably 3 or 4 times each.
kawoshin fanart is the extent of my interest in Evangelion now. If I were more straight I’d probably be an Asuka fag, and would still be holding onto that.
I can’t really bring myself to let go of Kawoshin, they’re really cute characters, but beside that and some of the action scenes, maybe some stuff with Misato too who I like as a character, that’s all I’m really able to enjoy from Evangelion anymore.
And I’m fine with that. I don’t think my previous love of the series is invalidated, I’ve just moved on.
4.0 makes me kind of mad, but it’s also exactly what I was expecting from Anno.
