I mean, watching the show, yeah, going by what we're actually shown, the relationship between these 2 got way more focus than the actual canon relationships they got (way more sexual tension, as well, and just infinitely more compelling, too), but what made you think a hyper-mainstream 2000s shounen would EVER allow that?

I don't even remember what my first gay ship ever was but this one was definetely my first "big" gay ship I still ship these days, wheres nearly all of my ships in general are just jokes I quickly forget about
Maybe it's because of how little people ship them compared to something like randy/howard or badger/mao mao despite having a lot of "suggestive" moments in the actual show, or maybe I'm just a retard

Fics about them saving Harry from the Dursleys and raising him as their own in like a cottage in the countryside were my induction into the fujo life. Even all these years later, though my feelings for the franchise as a whole have soured quite a bit, I still have a huge soft spot for this ship. I'm glad the marauder fandom has weathered the storm and is still going strong, largely independent from the greater HP fandom.

My first cartoon ship was a Hetalia one, and the way that happened was I was new in town and saw a girl with a yaoi badge. As an anime aficionado I knew Hetalia had a lot of boys in it so I orchestrated a situation where I could 'subtly' draw a Hetalia character in her field of view. I had no further plan but she took me home and we watched it together, and I was corrupted for life in the worst way imaginable

I actually shipped Mai x Joey from Yugioh. Learned how to use the internet and that there are other weird people out there shipping characters, I thought I was weird because none of my friends ever talked about that irl. It was long ago I barely remember.
The first ones weren't 2D for me, internet was too shit to really get into anime. Live action movies Dude Where's My Car and BASEketball had kiss scenes that truly Inspired Something In Me. And then maybe Panic! at the Disco shipping, which I got my friends into.
And then Remus/Sirius. SasuNaru and Axel/Roxas are the first Japanese media ships I remember getting really into with my friends in middle school-ish, so I consider them my firsts. I remember a friend tried to get me into Sephiroth/Cloud earlier but it wasn't my thing.
