Japan loves their traps, shotas, otokonokos etc but also isn't the most friendly place if you're actually gay IRL.
Issue with the west is that they'll go on about how gender expression should be free and gender norms suck. But then someone just makes a feminine boy, and they go nuts about forcing them to be trans or nonbinary or whatever. Even worse if the boy in question is gay or implied to be gay, then it's "harmful stereotyping" or some BS like that.
