Other than that you forgot to capitalize 'body' in the third-to-last paragraph. This is very well written. As for suggestions, maybe have Varré lean into Stockholm syndrome out of hopelessness and attempt good behavior in return for better treatment? As for him being rescued, maybe one of the Lord's friends could be invited to see Varré and take pity.
