The ones with mainly secondary non-human characteristics like ears and such are closer to just kemonomimi than proper monster boys, and the full-on furry ones are closer to... well, furries.
But of course, boys with animal ears are still very cute, and I'm admittedly a furfag so the furry boys are cute too. I'm into all of it, I just think that the ideal monster boy has got to be somewhere in between.
