The pathetic abashiri jailer with crappy luck and the native ainu man who objectified the hell out of tanigaki when sugimoto and crew visited his village! GK side characters that were so popular the author made them part of the main cast! Specifically part of Hijikata's group! They end up having a small adventure together and become pretty much inseparable after that, to the point that other main characters comment on it.
I strongly urge you to read the manga! Its way better than the anime! You need to see how cute Kirawus and Kadokura act around each other!
