>>3666549I've been curious about the Chinese red eyeliner thing too, but so far as I've been able to find it doesn't really have any historical precedent. Red is a lucky color in China and tied to their national identity, and it's vaguely reminiscent of traditional plum blossom makeup or the makeup used in Chinese opera. But the way it's depicted on characters like Xiao and Zhongli, with a hard stripe at the corner or bottom lid of the eye, seems to be a modern invention. I've seen it used on wuxia characters and anime characters as well.
It's sexy as hell, though.
