>>3660514Honestly? I depends, and this is true for any game really. You may think the story is bad if you've play previous SMT games. If you're big on lore and mythology you may get annoyed at the open ended like nature of it. But if you're new, as you say you are, and you don't mind a plot that services the game you won't get annoyed at the story, no. One character goes through a very abrupt character change and it comes off as comical as a result. And its not so much that the writing is bad, it's that you want to like these characters and know more about them but the story just doesn't give you enough. It skips around a lot (like literal *the next day* shit and fades to black more than once) and characters that need more development show up suddenly at the end.
The ending may very well confuse the shit out of you, but lore fags will be able to explain it to you if you ask, like here even. I would say if you want to get invested in any character, pick Aogami. I'm fairly sure the game wants you to and it's kind of the point to pay attention to what he says. And I would also shoot for getting the true end on your first play through since it's the only ending that actually feels like an ending, the others feel like "what if" scenarios and just aren't worth it. You will end up wanting to see the real ending after getting any of the other 3.
And the seemingly large dump of sudden MC x Aogami art isn't a meme, I would say it's practically canon the robot loves the MC. He's even got the cliche "I don't know what love is because I'm a robot" kind of love confession line to the MC near the end but you can easily miss it if you button mash since it's just a text box, but it's voice acted and one of his best lines in the game I'd say. Like I said, if you try to pay attention to any character, he's the one to watch.
